The Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Science Academy at the University of Miami offers high school students an introductory understanding of forensic investigation. Participants will gain hands-on experience in approaching a crime scene, gathering evidence, and analyzing various aspects of a crime. The program involves working with criminalist, firearm, and fingerprint specialists to collect and analyze evidence, including identifying latent prints. Students will also learn the basics of forensic anthropology, focusing on the identification and analysis of human skeletal remains to determine sex, age, stature, ancestry, and identity, as well as bone pathology and trauma. The curriculum emphasizes the application of scientific principles from biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics to real-world legal questions, preparing students to critically assess evidence and communicate scientific findings effectively.
Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday, with a morning session from 9:15 AM to 11:30 AM and an afternoon session from 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM.
